STEVE McArthur, who has owned The Ravenswood at Sharpthorne for the past 34 years, says he has been left angry and mortified by a newspaper report that he is planning to close his business.
Mr McArthur has submitted outline plans to convert the 500 year old hotel into residential units which, if approved, will remain optional for another five years.
But he says he has only done so as a way of keeping his options open in an increasingly crowded wedding market.
However as a result of the report announcing that he could be closing down, he has had brides ringing him in tears because they fear their wedding plans will have to be cancelled – and he is now worried that others won’t even bother looking at his beautiful venue set in 20 acres of gardens, lakes and woods when considering where they want to celebrate their marriages.
“We have no closures planned at all, but reports like this can put people like me out of business. These people don’t realise the damage they can do.”
